In partnership with Sussex Autistic Community Trust (SACT) we ran a digital film and animation art foundation course for twelve young adults with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome. The programme was for 18 weeks, divided into four terms, and took place here in our studios at Project Art Works on a weekly basis.
The workshops were structured into two sessions; one for participants with higher support needs and the other for participants who have Aspergers Syndrome. Using different media, combining digital video and photography with traditional art media the project focuses on self-directed creative exploration.
The project was designed to meet the needs of this particular sector of the community, who are often denied access to other education opportunities. It challenged the pre-conceived notions of what this group of people are capable of, by giving them a platform to express their view of the world.
The film that was created was premiered at the regional digital film festival, 'Shot by the Sea' and was also shown at our Open Day in September.
Project dates:
June 2005 to May 2006
