Projects - Summer Workshops 2007 - Summary

This project was structured around the needs of families who have a child with severe disabilities and who experience limited opportunities to access cultural or leisure activities together. We provided the opportunity for children, their family and siblings to work together in self directed creative workshops with professional artists. Families were able to work together in an inclusive and supportive setting.

This year, Project Art Works offered an extended period of workshops for 5 weeks during the school summer holiday - two days each week for five weeks, to enable more families to have access to the activities we offered.

The project encouraged open exploration of different materials, processes and media. The emphasis was on creating real and imaginary environments through the use of painted and projected installations. The participants helped to design and construct temporary spaces using card, light, large rolls of paper. They filmed the progress of the workshops and an edited version will eventually be available for them to have as a record of their experience.

We invited pupils who attend Glyne Gap SLD School , Bexhill, Torfield School Hastings, Hazel Court SLD School Eastbourne, Saxon Mount School, St Leonards-on-Sea.

Project dates:
July 2007 to August 2007
