Projects - Summer Project 2004 - Summary

In August 2004 Project Art Works ran an art workshop for children with severe learning disabilities, their families and carers. As with all our summer workshops this project was designed to provide interesting and appropriate art activities during the long summer holidays.

The main aim of the project was to provide a supportive, creative environment in which the family could relax and enjoy being together. With parents being guided by the Project Art Works team in how to help their child access creative processes. The activities were accessible to anyone irrespective of age or ability and were structured in a way that enabled the family to work together to make art. The evaluation process was built into the workshop activities with photography, video and 1:1 sessions being used to collect feedback from the children with severe learning disabilities in a verbal or visual format.

Using the theme of ‘our family’ the creative emphasis was on portrait painting and photography. The final results were exhibited and published in an evaluative publication along with a series of images from the project.
